States of Matter in the STEM Lab

Here are some photos of our fun week in the STEM lab!

The students built vehicles and we used a solid and liquid combined (baking soda and vinegar) to create a gas reaction and make them move.

We  also learned about changing states of matter with heat energy!
We made play dough, chapstick, butter for frosting and played with oobleck!

Ask your child what their favorite activity was :)

Have a Happy Holiday!

Gabby and Ben's Blog Post

Our class learns a new addition or subtraction strategy every math class.
Like in betweens, adding and subtracting 9 or 11, doubles +1, count on or back.

Grace and Declan's Blog Post

In the STEM Lab, our class has been learning about the states of matter. First we learned about liquids, then we learned about solids. We learned that liquids can not be punched, and we learned that solids can be punched.

Message from the ART ROOM!

Hello Second Grade Parents!

Every year I do candle dipping with the second grade classes and this year I can use some extra hands and eyes to make it a safe and productive process.  I set up 4 colors of wax and the students file through dipping their candle wicks into the wax.  They need constant reminders to dip quickly- otherwise their candles end up melting in the pots, and they need constant crowd control to make sure each body is in a safe place.  It is a very fun project and the kids do work really hard to make it successful, but extra adults is the key.  2 volunteers per class would be great!
