Caleb's Blog Post

You need to remember to bring your snow pants every day and coat and BOOTS. We make our boots in a row and hang up our snow stuff. And if it's below 0 you have to where your snow pants on the bus home and if you go to Live Y'ers you always need to where snow pants and pick ups never need to where their snow pants.

Lindsey and Anastasia's Blog Post

On Monday we got a ton of snow! The slides where fast! When we landed, it hurt our bums a lot! Some of us built a snowman! Others just made big snowballs.😀

Limericks

This week and last, our class learned about writing limericks! We read many examples and practiced rhyming together. We learned that the end of the first, second and fifth lines need to rhyme and the end of the third and fourth lines also need a different rhyme. Here is an example of a limerick that one of the students wrote. We will work on other types of poetry and publishing later this month!

Addition Strategies

In math last week our class reviewed basic addition strategies. We talked about how to use counting on, ten partners, doubles, and doubles + 1. Each time we reviewed we played a different game to practice each strategy. This week we will talk about adding 9's, 10's and 11's!

Any practice or flash cards you can do at home with your child is VERY helpful for addition fact fluency!

Turkey Math

Last week in math, the students worked VERY hard to solve a problem about buying and cooking a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. The students were given the weight of a turkey and the price per pound. The class worked together to figure out the total cost of the turkey. Next, the students had to think about how long to cook their turkey, and again they were given how many minutes per pound to cook their turkey. Lastly, they had to figure out what time to put their turkey in the oven if the wanted dinner to start at a certain time when their guests arrive. The class did an excellent job and thought deeply about multiple strategies to solve the questions in a variety of ways.

Thankful Pumpkins

Our class is THANKFUL for so many things! Check out each thing your child is thankful for on a section of their pumpkin. They worked so hard on them. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving break with family and friends!

Super Pollinators in the STEM lab!

Super Pollinators in the STEM lab

Problem: Mrs. Harvey wanted to make a model of a “Super Pollinator” for everyone to take home but she didn’t have time. A “Super Animal Pollinator” is a pollinator that can carry 250 times more than your average bee!

Criteria: The students model “Super Animal Pollinator” must be able to stand on its own and be able to support 1 teaspoon (5 grams) of “pollen.”

Veteran's Day

Here are a few photos from our school wide Veteran's Day celebration on Friday.
Our class had the honor of singing a song to the Veterans that were able to come to our assembly.
They did a great job and were very respectful performers and audience members!
Every child in the elementary school traced their hand and wrote something that they were thankful for and this flag was created as a symbol of our support for veterans.

Publishing Party

Last week, our class celebrated finishing their personal narratives with a publishing party! The students worked hard to revise and edit their stories into their best and final drafts. They also made covers and an about the author page to tell their readers a little bit about themselves.

As the students read their stories, it warmed my heart to look around the room and see smiles, laughing, questions of curiosity, compliments and proud authors. The students did an EXCELLENT job and the growth in the writing that I saw over the last month or two has just been amazing.

The students also were able to fill up the GEM box once again by being respectful, responsible and safe. They voted to bring a stuffed animal to school, and they were also invited to the publishing party! Check out the narratives on display outside our classroom on our bulletin board!
