STEM LAB - States of Matter

Second grade is back in the STEM lab learning about the States of Matter.

We kicked off the week by learning all about LIQUIDS. The students will visit 4 different stations that explore different properties of liquid. After visiting each station, the students will reflect on their learning by writing "I notice" statements and thinking about our focus question:
Are all liquids the same?

We are challenging the students to describe what they saw at each station using as many science words as they can. Ask your child what station(s) they have visiting so far!

Anika's Blog Post

We colored in "yet coloring sheets" and learned about patience by I can't do it... YET with positive thinking.  Then we put the coloring sheets on the wall under the "I can't do it " poster.

Winter Gear

SNOW!!!

It’s snow season! We need to be prepared for whatever weather Vermont decides to give us. Please start sending your child into school with winter gear: boots, jacket, snow pants, hat and mittens.

Thanks so much!

4 Winds Spider Presentation!

On Friday, we were lucky enough to have Mrs. Brouillette come in and give us a 4 Winds presentation on spiders!

She taught us all about how spiders look, act, and live in the world around us. We even got to explore real live spiders in mason jars!

After that, we got to make our own spider models and explore the different parts of a spider in groups. We even got to dress Mrs. Christie up as a spider by adding her eight legs, eight eyes, and antenna!

Thank you so much for coming in to help us, Mrs. Brouillette!

Halloween Fun!

Yesterday, we had an awesome day celebrating Halloween!
We started the day off with a read aloud called Dia de los Muertos and learned a little bit about how the Hispanic culture celebrates their version of Halloween, also known as Day of the Dead.
We learned some new words in Spanish and used context clues in the book to help us figure out what they meant.

In the afternoon, we had our Halloween party!
Thank you to everyone who brought in yummy treats, we devoured them all.
As the students ate their treats, we watched a Halloween movie called Room on the Broom, which is also a book that is featured in our classroom library!

If you look closely, you can see some special guests on our desks! We recently filled up our GEMS box with gems the students received for being respectful, responsible, and safe. Our choice of a small celebration was to bring in our stuffed animals, dolls, and blankets.
Nice job 2nd graders!
