On Thursdays in the month of November, the students wrote about things they were thankful for in their lives. Then, they created pumpkins out of them to share with their families over vacation!

Reading Workshop

Today during reading workshop, the students listened to Ms. Toof read a descriptive and funny poem about different creatures. The students drew the picture that they visualized in their minds and then afterward, we all got to see what the illustrator sketched in the book! It was a really fun activity 😀

Hand Pollinators in the STEM lab

Today in the STEM lab the students revised their original design of a hand pollinator for one of three different types of flowers. The goal was for their pollinator to successfully pick up and drop off pollen from inside of a model flower. The students used what they learned from their original design and improved upon it.

Beat the Calculator!

Today during math, we played a game called Beat the Calculator. Students worked in groups of three where they either recited a math fact, used a calculator the solve the fact, or used their brain to solve the fact. The students learned after a few rounds, that when paired up against a student with a calculator, their brains worked faster than fingers!

Veteran's Day

Tuesday was Veteran's Day and we honored that together as an elementary school.
At an assembly, we listened to poems and songs recited by older students in dedication to those who have served our country. Here is Mr. Emery, our principal, saying a few words at the beginning of the presentation.

Fire Safety Day

Today the second grade students learned about fire safety!

The Georgia Fire Department brought Engine 1 over to the school for the students to see and ask any questions they had.

Daylight savings time is a great reminder to check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors!
